About the Demo
Frozen Way released a free 1-hour playable demo for Honeycomb: The World Beyond on Steam on August 31, 2026 โ exactly one week before the full game launch (September 8, 2026). The demo covers the opening section of the game and is the basis for much of this wiki's confirmed information.
The demo is/was available on the Steam store page as a separate download. Availability post-launch may vary. Even if the demo is no longer active, this guide documents what the demo contained for wiki completeness.

Optimal Demo Walkthrough (60 Minutes)
Minutes 0โ5: Landing and Orientation
The demo opens with Hennessy landing via drop-pod in the Amber Plains. Skip cutscenes on a second playthrough. Immediately open your map to orient yourself. The main starting area is a broad sandy plain with orange stalk plants. Locate the distant stone arch to your northeast โ that's your river crossing waypoint.
Minutes 5โ12: Water First
Head to the river crossing. Drink immediately to refill Thirst. Scan the river lily-pads and the red dragonflies flying overhead. Collect 3โ4 plant specimens from the river bank using secateurs. Do NOT enter the water yet.
Minutes 12โ22: Herd Interaction
Follow the river south to the Open Meadow. The herd fauna congregate here. You can scan each individual in the herd separately โ each unique specimen counts. The teal-fin lizard is found at the waterhole edge. This section alone can fill 40% of your Research Progress meter if you're thorough.
The demo's most memorable moment: crouch near a herd beast and wait. Within 30 seconds, it will walk over and nuzzle your hand (screenshot_5 moment). This triggers a Field Journal entry.
Minutes 22โ35: Resource Gathering
Return to the Amber Plains and systematically harvest materials. Target: 12ร plant fiber, 8ร stone chip (from rock cluster near the arch), 6ร edible fruit (from low scrub bushes). Avoid the orange crab-fauna near the eastern rock cluster โ scan them from distance only. Collect orange stalk plants last as they're more exposed terrain.
Minutes 35โ48: Build Your Base
Select a flat area with good sightlines (recommended: the elevated clearing between the staircase rocks and the purple-leaf tree cluster you can see in screenshot_1). Enter planning mode and place: Shelter โ Storage โ Greenhouse โ (attempt Lab if you have materials). Confirm placement and let the build complete.
Minutes 48โ58: First Crossbreeding Attempt
If you built the Lab: enter it, open the crossbreeding menu, and run the one unlocked Grafting experiment (the demo pre-selects two compatible species). Watch the scanning hologram animation โ this is the only confirmed demo crossbreeding scene. The resulting hybrid appears in your Field Journal with a unique entry.
Minutes 58โ60: Explore Amber Plains Fully
Use remaining time to scan any unscanned specimens โ particularly the purple-burst spike plant near the sandy section. The demo does not have a hard timer cutoff (the "1-hour demo" is approximate) โ you can continue until you close the game.
Demo save data does NOT carry over to the full game. Your Field Journal entries, base, and crossbreeding history reset. However, playing the demo is excellent preparation โ familiarity with controls and scanning routes makes your full-game first hour significantly more efficient.
Demo Tips: Species to Scan for Maximum Research Progress
These 8 targets, all reachable in the demo area, give the highest combined Research Progress in the shortest time:
- Herd Beast (scan all 5+ individuals at the watering hole)
- Teal-Fin Lizard (watering hole edge)
- Red Dragonfly (river crossing overhead)
- River Lily-Pad (river bank)
- Low-Scrub Fruit Bush (Amber Plains)
- Orange Stalk Plant (Amber Plains open area)
- Masked Ground Creature (forest edge near base area)
- Purple-Burst Spike Plant (sandy sub-section of Amber Plains)
Completing all 8 should max out the demo's Research Progress meter โ which unlocks the final demo Field Journal entry and a pre-launch exclusive EON Corp message about the full game.
